Dancheong Silk Scarf

Dancheong

This silk scarf reinterprets Gyeongbokgung Palace Dancheong patterns by applying stained glass color techniques. The project focuses on the aesthetic transition of traditional colors into seasonal palettes. The patterns are based on the lotus motif and developed in four versions, each reflecting the specific light and color of the seasons over the palace. Produced on silk, the work utilizes digital printing to capture detailed motifs, achieving visual harmony for modern styling.

Four Seasons Scarf

Four Seasons

Drawing inspiration from the classical water sleeves dances of Shen Yun, this scarf transports people to a tranquil garden stretching from a shimmering koi pond to towering mountain peaks. A maiden graces the scene, her flowing sleeves dancing in the air, with a gentle smile on her face. What sets this design apart is that it is, in its entirety, a single narrative painting, created using digital painting techniques on a tablet in Photoshop over several months. The vision: to let the wearer carry not just an image, but an entire world of feeling into everyday life.

Royalcover Home Textile Palace Series

Royalcover

Royalcover is a home textile series that includes duvet covers, bed sheets, pillowcases and cushions. The patterns are inspired by Palazzo Biscari and by Rococo art. Versions A and C are made of 19 momme silk with digital printing, while version B uses a 22 momme silk and cotton blend. The series is intended to suit both modern and classic interiors.

Pixel Weave Monalisa Rug

Pixel Weave Monalisa

Hana Mitsui reinterprets traditional Japanese tatami weaving through a pixelated Mona Lisa made with Igusa grass. Working with tatami craftspeople, she explores how this time-honored material can engage with present-day visual language. By noticing the visual similarity between tatami’s weave and digital pixel grids, Mitsui developed a method to express subtle tones through tactile, pixel-like forms. The result highlights a quiet dialogue between tradition and modern perspective. Her practice reflects an ongoing interest in translating cultural heritage into new visual expressions.

Random Puff 4D Embroidered Garment

Random Puff

Random Puff is a novel puffer that uses 4D embroidery puffs for insulation. Puffs are initially fabricated flat and pop up into domes when exposed to heat. The activated puffs then trap air between the outer environment and the wearer’s body to keep them warm. The development involves the creation of a library of 4D embroidery material interactions between active fibers and static fabrics. Designers and developers can use computational design tools to work collaboratively with end-users, creating novel textile and softgood designs that are high-tech fashion, personalized and sustainable.

Bio Melanin Fibre Fashion

Bio Melanin

The practice-led research and design investigated the use of soil to create a substitute textile material in Thailand. It aims to maximize the value of natural resources in response to climate change, based on the concept of living in harmony with nature. A bio-fibre was synthesized from soil bacteria through a process that holistically considered the full production cycle, ensuring that it generated no waste. The final material contained melanin pigments similar to human skin tones, with hues comparable to those of people from Thailand.
